People have been expecting Sony Ericsson to launch something similar to a PSP Phone for a while, but the rumors were always brought down, much to some fans’ disappointment. But today, another rumor comes to the list of rumors seen in the past, and it seems that it’s Sony to take the initiative this time.
Indeed, the creators of the PlayStation seem to be bothered with Apple’s hegemony in the portable devices sector and would be developing a smartphone that would be connected to an Online Service (Sony Online Service, which should be similar to the iTunes), where users could download songs and PlayStation games.
Despite the Sony brand, the device will be built by Sony Ericsson, even though the OS is still unknown. Sony also seems to be planning to make a tablet that would be a “netbook, an e-reader and a PlayStation portable” all in one, in order to compete with Apple’s iPad and other devices.

Previously launched on the Oriental market, now the Sony Ericsson T707 is available for the rest of the world as well. It’s a cellphone with feminine colors and featuring particular visual effects on the display and the gesture control feature.
Upon receiving a call the phone lights up, allowing the user to know who’s calling also thanks to special light effects. Besides the “glamour” effect, the most interesting feature is the gesture control system that, for example, allows the user to turn the ringtone off or deactivate their alarm clock by simply waving in front of the screen.
Other technical specifications include a 3.2 megapixel photocamera, a 2.2″ screen, FM radio, Bluetooth, HSDPA technology and a 1.1″ OLED, anti-scratch external display. The telephone features a 100MB internal memory and supports microSD, Transflash and Memory Stick Micro cards.
The T707 will be available from the second trimester of 2009.
