Announced last September in its CDMA version, the Palm Pixi model, featuring the webOS software, will also have a GSM version. This second version appeared in Vietnam, and as we can see from the pictures, the GSM Pixi model has a SIM slot, of course, and it seems to work on EDGE networks, and also compatible with 3G.

It’s not surprising that the GSM version of the Palm Pixi is almost the same as the CDMA version. The device shown in the images show an internal 4GB memory, while the CDMA version had 8GB. It’s likely that the GSM Pixi specifications will be the same as the CDMA version: Multi-touch display with the resolution of 320 x 400 pixels, accelerometer, GPS and 2 Megapixel photocamera. Nothing is official yet, but the GSM versions could be launched in the Western markets next year.

It seems that after a failed initial launch date, there’s a new date established for the launching of the Palm Pre, the new Palm smartphone that is expected to be the turning point for the company.

In order to ease the hype around the product, the New York Times has published an article, citing that people “briefed on the company’s plans” have declared that the new launch date has been established in June. Quoting from the article:

“But the season’s most compelling phone drama will start the first week in June, when Sprint will begin selling the Palm Pre…”

True or not? Well, the New York Times is a valid newspaper, but we will wait for official confirmation in any case and label it as a rumor.

There’s a lot of hype about the launch of the Palm Pre, a device that is promising to become everyone’s “dream phone”. Touchscreen display, slide QWERTY keyboard and the brand new WebOS Operational System are some of the key elements that Palm has decided to use on this model. But, no launch date has been confirmed yet.

Except that some information found on a project table from Sprint, apparently from a leaked document belonging to the American phone company, shows that the Pre is scheduled to launch on May 16th. We’ll be labeling it as a rumor until we can find official confirmation.

The good, yet now slightly outdated smartphone from Palm, the Palm Treo 750 was first launched around January 2007, featuring the Windows Mobile 5.2, which later was updated to the 6.0.

Now a video has been published, showing that after two years from the launch, it’s still possible to install the new Windows Mobile 6.5 on the Treo 750, and obtaining decent results as well.

Obviously, it’s a hack and not an official upgrade, so warning for the Treo 750 users: it’s better not to try this at home.

There’s no doubt that one of the most awaited devices on 2009 is the Palm Pre. The model was born with the intention of helping relaunching the company that seemed to have lost a bit of its ground on the market. The Palm Pre seems to have been born with this goal, offering great technical specifications and a modern OS: The webOS.

According to the latest rumors, it seems that the smartphone’s browser will be actually faster than the Safari Mobile from iPhone. The browser from Apple is in fact the best browser for mobile devices in this category.

Like the Safari and many mobile browsers, the Pre’s will be based on the Webkit engine. During an online demonstration a few days ago, it was put to the test: the browsder took 8 seconds to load an American sports site, while the iPhone would take 20.

If those rumors prove themselves to be true, the browser’s speed will add itself to the many winning points on the Pre. We’ll have to wait and see.

We’ve talked about the Palm Pre cellphone, one of the devices that are destined to fame in 2009. We’ve also shown you some images as well. It’s still not sure when the model will be launched at all, although the official site allows users to subscribe to a newsletter that will inform them of the phone’s launch.

However, it is going to be launched first in the USA, in exclusivity with Sprint. In fact, Palm would have requested $49 million dollars for the exclusivity in the US. Palm is so sure of the phone’s success that they declared that once the iPhone 2-year contracts expire in June, there will be a mass migration to the new Palm Pre.

We’ll have to stay tuned and see how it turns out.

Another rumor that is roaming the net says that the Palm Pre launch should be scheduled for the beginning of this year, specifically on February 15th. What seems to give credit to this rumor is the fact that the same person that anticipated the launch date for the Treo 800w has claimed this new rumor.

The mysterious source also says that a flat mobile plan will be needed in order to use the Palm Pre. This rumor is polemic already: some people claim that it cannot be true since there has been no news of a FCC approval or a marketing campaign before its launch.

Of course, we’re treating it as a rumor and we’ll be tuned on more information.
