  • Yahoo! Mobile announced at the Mobile World Congress

Big announcement from Yahoo! in Barcellona. After the last month’s indecisions about its presence in the mobile sector, it seems that the company has finally decided to invest resources on the market.

The beta testing for the new Yahoo! Mobile service will start on March 2009, at least for the United the States, and it should be concluded by the end of June. The service will introduce a new mobile web portal, a new iPhone application and applications for Nokia, Blackberry, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Motorola and Windows Mobile smartphones.

In a nutshell, it’s a corrected and reviewed version of Yahoo! Go!, in which are integrated Yahoo oneConnect and Yahoo onePlace, announced a few months ago but never released, except a beta version for the iPhone. Yahoo’s intentions the fusion of those services in one plaftorm are, according to the official press release:

    * Discover: via results from Yahoo!’s award-winning mobile search, editor-selected content, and new maps tools.
    * Stay Connected: through access to their email and social network accounts from the most popular Web providers, as well as instant messaging, address book and calendar tools.
    * Stay Informed: by bringing together favorite content - websites, sports teams, news sources, RSS feeds, weather, stocks, horoscopes and more - into a single location.

Initially, Yahoo! Mobile will be available in the United States, Canada, Great Britain, France, Germany, India, Indonesia and The Philippines, and other countries might see it throughout the year. From the images released, the idea seems rather solid and well-developed. But we couldn’t help but notice the absence of Android as a supported Operational System.

    Coincidence?
