It seems that the Windows Phone 7 Series will generate the same complaints that the iPhone owners had at the beginning: the lack of a copy/paste function.
According to Engadget, Microsoft has confirmed it during the MIX10 conference, in which the Windows Phone Marketplace was also announced. Naturally it doesn’t mean that the Windows Phone 7 Series will have copy/paste, the previous versions of Windows Mobile do feature it, after all. It’ll probably be implemented after the launch.
Whether it’s a good choice or not, we’ll have to see.

The guys from WindowsPhoneForums.com have published a video where we can see the first three Windows Phone 7 Series phones from Asus, Samsung and LG. As we’ve mentioned before, these devices feature a series of minimum hardware specifications, and integrate at least 256MB RAM and 8GB of internal memoy, also DirectX 9 acceleration to bring the mobile gaming experience to similar levels as the desktop one.
The rest of the technical specifications are still unknown, although from the video, the Samsung’s screen seems an AMOLED, and there’s a big photocamera in the back. The GPS, accelerometer, digital compass, light and proximity sensors should be available as well, as they’re considered “minimum requirements”, and the screen should have two resolutions: 800 x 400 or 480 x 320, the latter being a resolution that Microsoft will only allow on a second stage.
Enjoy the video!

Upon a first glance, this SANYO Incognito SCP6760 seems rather interesting. It’s a smartphone with a physical QWERTY keyboard and aesthetically, it gives us a good impression of a solid phone. The 2.6″ display has the resolution of 320 x 240 pixels, but there’s also an external OLED monitor with touch-sensitive keys. The photocamera however has only 2 Megapixels.
Featuring the Haptic technology, that sends a vibration feedback, it also has microSD support, GPS, access to the main social networks and bluetooth. The sales for now will be restricted to the USA, and Europe has no official launch date yet.

Samsung has released a video to explain the difference between the AMOLED and Super AMOLED displays, and also how they obtained the desired results.
Basically, during the manufacturing stages, with the Super AMOLED display, less materials are needed. Which translates into better brightness and a thinner display, which helps in creating slim phones. The Super AMOLED displays will also be available to other manufacturers to build their own smartphones.

During the keynote presented at the TechEd Middle East in Dubai, Eric Rudder from Microsoft showed a demo of a game (Indiana Jones) played on a PC with Windows, a Windows Phone 7 phone and an XBox 360.
The most interesting thing, however, isn’t that the game is compatible with the three platforms, but that the game session is kept for all the three devices, allowing users to continue the game that they started on the Xbox 360 by playing it on the Windows Phone 7 Series phone.
Gamers will definitely like that, we think. Enjoy the video!

People have been expecting Sony Ericsson to launch something similar to a PSP Phone for a while, but the rumors were always brought down, much to some fans’ disappointment. But today, another rumor comes to the list of rumors seen in the past, and it seems that it’s Sony to take the initiative this time.
Indeed, the creators of the PlayStation seem to be bothered with Apple’s hegemony in the portable devices sector and would be developing a smartphone that would be connected to an Online Service (Sony Online Service, which should be similar to the iTunes), where users could download songs and PlayStation games.
Despite the Sony brand, the device will be built by Sony Ericsson, even though the OS is still unknown. Sony also seems to be planning to make a tablet that would be a “netbook, an e-reader and a PlayStation portable” all in one, in order to compete with Apple’s iPad and other devices.

The Bluetooth Special Interest Group has talked about the Bluetooth 4.0 and the roadmap for the new specifications. The first devices featuring Bluetooth 4.0 will be sold by the end of this year.
The specifications for the Bluetooth 4.0 were thought for the devices with low energy requirements. The Bluetooth SIG has the intention of extending the 4.0 not only to PC, mobile phones and headphones, but also to watches and clocks, pedometers and such. Among the specifications for the Bluetooth 4.0, there’s the possibility of high-speed Bluetooth-to-WiFi, more “wireless capability” to gadgets such as photocameras, portable consoles and tablet PCs, hence helping the communication between devices thanks to the Bluetooth 4.0. It should serve as a bridge for light information without wasting of energy. These protocols have indeed been thought out to be efficient with a low-bit data transfer.
Despite the low-consumption possibility, users will not notice an enhancement in the battery consumption on their own mobile phones: the Bluetooth 4.0 radio waves use as much energy as the Bluetooth 3.0 when used to synchronize smartphones with the laptops or other devices, or to listen to music with the wireless headphones.

The confusion around the Windows Phone 7 and possible upgrades from previous versions is still there in Microsoft. Last week, Microsoft UK declared that an upgrade could be considered by Microsoft’s hardware partners. But today, Natasha Kwan, General Manager of Microsoft Mobile Communications Business for the Asian market has declared that due to specific requirements for the Windows Phone 7 Series, the current models on the market cannot access the upgrade. In this declaration, it’s included the HTC HD2, which seems not to have all the minimum requirements. The Windows Mobile 6.5 will be able to receive an update to the Windows Mobile 6.5.3, and after the upgrade, the Windows Mobile 6.5.3 will officially become the Windows Phone Classic.

During a meeting with Aaron Woodman from Microsoft, some bloggers managed to have a look at the prototype of the first smartphone that will use Windows Phone 7 series. It’s an LG-manufactured device with complete QWERTY keyboard and a 5 Megapixel photocamera.
Unfortunately for now there’s no way of making any further comments on the new version of Microsoft’s mobile OS. We’ll leave you to the video. Enjoy!
